East Salalah Shore Excursion from Salalah Port Oman

Eastern Salalah Shore excursion will start in the morning with a visit to the old fishing village of Taqah, this place is popular for the manufacturing of Dried Sardines. Taqah captivates the visitors with its traditional & old Dhofari Houses. You may visit the century-old Taqah Caster once a formal residence of the Wali (Governor). Taqah castle gives you a glimpse into the rich history of the region. Explore the ancient ruins of the once famous city of Sumharam (Khor Rohri). The city was part of the ancient incense route between the Mediterranean Sea, the Persian Gulf and India. The magical journey to the Eastern side of Salalah gives you the chance to explore one of the best landscapes of the Middle East.

East Salalah Shore Excursion from Salalah Port Oman
The shore excursion of East Salalah will start with pick up from the Salalah port at 08:30 and our guide will escort you to Taqah Castle and it is located 33 km east of Salalah. This is one of the popular landmarks in Dhofar Governorate which was built in the 19th century. You can spend 30 minutes exploring Taqah Castle and you will see the well, roofless jail, formal sitting area (majlis), bedrooms, kitchen, and stores. You can also spot artefacts like traditional weaponry, jewellery, everyday household items along with traditional colourful pieces of clothes.

Your next stop will be the beautiful Taqah Beach, this place is famous for bird watching and you will get the best of the city from the beachside. You will be guided to Wadi Darbat, you can see the seasonal waterfall (if it is there at the time of your tour) a place for pedal boating, kayaking and motor boating (at additional cost).

Your next stop is Travertine curtain in Dhofar, these are pockmarked rocks on the cliff face, a common geological formation in Dhofar. The main highlight is the seasonal waterfall, the sight of the waterfall landing from the valley to rock pool is something remarkable. You will then be guided to Sumhuram Archaeological site where you can see the remains of an old city of 3rd century BC. One of the four components of the Frankincense land in the UNESCO world heritage site. You can visit the famous Palace of Queen Sheeba before we move towards Khor Rori.

The stop will be Khor Rori, a lagoon on the Arabian Sea and an ideal place for bird watching. You can spot Flamingos, spoonbills and ibis are just some of the wetland birds that congregate at Khor Rori. With the visit of Khor Rori, your eastern Salalah will come to an end and you will be transferred back to the port.
