After breakfast at your hotel in Cairo, your Guide will collect you for your transfer back to Alexandria to explore the ancient Greco- Roman history and all its treasured sites. The first stop will be to visit the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, part of the early Roman period dating as far back as the 2nd century AD and used as burial chambers for the dead and hierarchy for over 200 years. The catacombs are said to be important evidence that during this time frame, it showed that three cultures, three religions and three art styles coexisted in Egypt.
From here, you will move on to visit the pretty 14th century Qaitbay Citadel, an important fort positioned on the eastern harbour to act as a defence against advances from the Ottoman Empire attacks.
Finally a totally different experience for a visit to its famous library, the Bibliotheca of Alexandria. Its ultra modern structure is very visible with a huge array of books from ancient to modern times and is often filled with local students. It replaces the original Library which was sadly accidently burnt down during the Civil War of 48 BC under the reign of Julius Ceasar. However, some of the original collection of books and documents survived.
Lunch will be provided then you will be transferred back to your Cruise at the Port of Alexandria for your departure.
