Ganga has played an important role in providing food and shelter and of course, providing easy
access to the mainland via small wooden boats. During the pre-colonization, Madu Ganga was used
as one of the main waterways connecting cities and ancient Sinhala Kingdoms. The main treasure of
Madu Ganga is its mangroves which act as a bio-lock to the area in giving protection to the variety
of aquatic plants and animal life. They provide a home for different kinds of aquatic plants, crabs,
shrimps, fish, various invertebrates, and other animal life including crocodiles. According to villagers
the main secret of the Madu Ganga is the tide. On any given day during the low tide the sea water
comes inland and mixes with fresh water and in the evening, it is the other way around – the magic
of nature. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Bentota

Duration on the water: 3 – 6 hours Report time around 6.30 am to from Mirissa fishery harbor/
Start time @ 7.00 am Whale Watching service starts at Mirissa Fishery Harbour. Whale watching in
Mirissa has become one of the greatest locations for spotting Blue, spam, and Killer whales in the
world. Mirissa is the best city spotting more blue whale watching and the possibility of whale watching with
my Ceylon adventures is more than 90%. Out of the largest mammals on earth, Sri Lanka is the place where
you can observe the largest land mammal the Elephant, and the largest sea mammal the Whale. Sri Lanka
whale observers gather to watch an awesome display of power & beauty of one of the largest, intelligent,
aquatic mammals on this earth. Southern Sri Lanka is one of the best places in the world for seeing Blue
whales. They breathe air through blowhole(s) into lungs (unlike fish who breathe using gills). Whales have
sleek, streamlined bodies that move easily through the water. Whales feed on small fish. The biggest whale is
the blue whale, which grows to be about 94 feet (29 m) long – the height of a 9-story building. These
enormous animals eat about 4 tons of tiny krill each day, obtained by filter feeding through baleen. Adult blue
whales have no predators except men. The smallest whale is the dwarf sperm whale which as an adult is only
8.5 feet (2.6 m) long.

COLOMBO
The trade and commercial capital has long been the traditional gateway to the Orient. Sri Lanka’s
largest city, it is located on the west coast and draws together all the cultures, religions, and
influences of foreign lands into a pot-pourri of sounds, smells, and a kaleidoscope of color. The
original traders and settlers – the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, and British have left in their wake
churches and monuments, names and religions, costumes and food, and smatterings of their
languages which have been absorbed into the speech of the Sri Lankan. Today, Colombo is a
fascinating city – a happy blend of east & west, past & present, with a charm of its own. A less
known but amazingly true fact is that Colombo has a superb range of high-quality restaurants
serving food from all over the world and some of the best shopping opportunities in Asia. The main
seaport of Sri Lanka is in Colombo & adjoining it, is Pettah, a local bazaar & trading area.
Other places of interest are the beautiful Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, mosques, the historic
Wolfendhal church, (1749) residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the
Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, the New Parliament in Sri Jayewardenepura,
the Folk Art Centre, Art Galleries, Parks, Independence Square, the Zoo, the Ceramic Corporation
famous for its well-known brand “Noritake” and ODEL the renowned shopping center.
Meals: Breakfast.
